The Single Parent Program at Goddard was the first of its kind in the country. Then Director of Development Doug North developed the program in response to what he saw as a pressing social concern. The program was designed to provide the higher education necessary to help single mothers get the education and skills they needed to get them off welfare. In the fall of 1986, eleven single mothers and sixteen children moved to the Greatwood Campus.
